Uninstall SAM Office from Ubuntu

Step by step

1. Save your documents and back up the files you want to keep. Close SAM Write, SAM Count and SAM Show. Back up settings privately first if you plan to reset them.
2. Open a terminal and run sudo apt purge sam-office to remove the installed SAM Office package.
3. Enter your computer administrator password when sudo asks. Review the package list and confirm only after checking it.
4. Wait for apt to finish. The program files, application-menu entries and package-installed update check are removed; your home-folder sign-in and settings remain.
5. If you want to keep the sign-in and preferences for a reinstall, leave the home folders in place. For an optional clean removal, show hidden files in your file manager and open your own .config folder.
6. After making a private backup, move only the SAM Office and samoffice folders inside .config to the Trash. The first holds sign-in data; the second holds app preferences. Repeat only within another user’s own account if that user wants the same reset.
7. Log out of the desktop and back in, or restart, to stop an update checker left running from the old desktop session.
8. Check that your documents and backups remain. If you reinstall after removing the settings, sign in again and review the default preferences.
