Save as PowerPoint or export a PDF
Keep an editable deck for future work and create a PDF for fixed-layout sharing.
This guide is based on application documentation. Its full procedure has not yet been tested directly; some details may vary by operating system and version.
Step by step
- Open the presentation and save your latest edits.
- Choose Save As in File to make a copy in another editable format.
- Choose PowerPoint 2007–365 (.pptx), PowerPoint 97–2003 (.ppt) or ODF Presentation (.odp), enter a name and save.
- To create a PDF instead, open File and choose Export as PDF. Use its options dialog when you need to choose pages or other export settings.
- Review the export options, continue to the save window, choose a folder and file name, and save the PDF.
- Open the resulting PDF and inspect the pages. Keep the editable .pptx, .ppt or .odp alongside it if you expect more changes.
Before you continue
PDF preserves the slide appearance for reading; it does not preserve slide-show transitions or editable objects.
PDF uses Export, not the editable-format list in Save As.
Check complex formatting after reopening a deck in another program.
